Heartbleed Bug – What You Need to Know
An online security vulnerability called "Heartbleed" is impacting many web sites, making news across the country. This vulnerability exists in certain versions of OpenSSL, a widely used open-source protocol used to encrypt vast portions of the web.
Protecting your personal and financial information is one of our top priorities every day. Our technology team has confirmed that our servers are not susceptible to this vulnerability. We have also received responses from our major partners that they have taken measures to ensure that their systems are secure.
We encourage our members to take proactive steps to guard against fraud. We recommend that members periodically change their passwords to all online accounts and use a unique password for each site. Be diligent in monitoring your accounts online and contact us immediately if you see anything out of the ordinary. Be cautious of sites you visit and what information you share online. Please be aware that you will never receive an email or phone call from HEW Federal Credit Union requesting your username, password, or PIN.
