As a member-owned financial cooperative, your credit union is constantly identifying ways to return greater value to you as a member. One of the ways in which it can achieve this is to seek less costly means of delivering the products and services it currently offers. In addition to seeking greater value, your credit union searches for ways to become more environmentally friendly, deliver services more quickly, and provide greater security for your account information, issues that we know are of great importance to our members. E-Statements are a great way to achieve all of these goals. It is in light of the above mentioned goals, that HEW Federal Credit Union will be making changes effective February 1, 2009 that affect the manner in which your monthly or quarterly statements are delivered. On that date, if you are an active user* of Internet Home Branch and have a valid e-mail address on record, you will be automatically signed up for electronic statements, “E-Statements”, and will no longer receive paper statements. E-Statements reduce the waste caused by the printing of paper statements, allow for faster delivery than mailed statements and provide an additional level of security for your account information. If you are not an Internet Home Branch user and choose to continue to receive paper statements after February 1, 2009, and are not a member of an exempt group, you will be assessed a $0.75 fee per statement mailed. This fee will simply compensate the credit union for the cost of printing and mailing your statement. Members exempt from this fee are those who are in STAR Levels IV or V and those who are 18 years of age and younger or 65 years of age and older. *An active user is defined as anyone who has accessed Internet Home Branch within the last 90 days. **Quarterly statement recipients will not be charged for the first time until April 1, 2009.
