Home-Buying Process
HEWFCU has developed a smooth home buying process for all of our members interested in purchasing a home. We are committed to properly educating our members on the process as well as putting you in the home of your dreams. For more information, please contact our Mortgage Specialists at 202.488.5400 ext 1863 or via email.
1. Complete our application. You may pick up an application at any branch or use our on-line application. The application will ask you questions about the home and your finances. When you submit the application we'll review your request for approval.
After completion, a Mortgage Specialist will contact you to introduce themselves and answer any questions you may have. Your HEWFCU Mortgage Specialist is a mortgage expert and will provide help and guidance along the way.
2. HEWFCU will schedule an appointment for you to pick up your HEW Mortgage Package and walk you through the closing process. The Mortgage Package contains forms for you to complete and a list of items we will need to verify information you have submitted about your finances.
We will order the appraisal from a licensed appraiser who is familiar with the home values in your area.
Title insurance will be necessary. You must work with your closing agent to insure the title work is ordered as soon as possible. We will use the title insurance policy to confirm the legal status of your property and to prepare the closing documents.
3. HEWFCU will contact you to coordinate a closing date. Upon receiving your Mortgage Package, appraisal, and title work, we will contact your closing agent to schedule your loan closing. If you are purchasing a home, your closing agent will also coordinate the closing with the real estate broker and seller.
The closing takes place at the office of a title company or attorney in your area. A few days before closing, your Mortgage Specialist will contact you to walk you through the final information.
