When an emergency or disaster occurs many organizations mobilize to provide assistance to individuals.  However, the most effective way to recover is pre-disaster Emergency Financial Literacy and Preparation.  After a disaster, financial issues affect more people than personal injury or direct property damage.

HOPE Coalition America also serves as a resource network of companies, including banking, financial services, and insurance as well as government, social service and emergency relief organizations that mobilize to respond to disasters.

Emergencies and disasters affect high-income, middle-income and low-income individuals.  Our two-income families usually have homes and personal property that are under-insured.  Our young professionals and senior citizens who are condominium owners and renters rarely have sufficient coverage on the contents of their residences and personal items, including furniture, electronic equipment, clothing and jewelry.

The first step in correcting this situation is to encourage every individual to complete an Emergency Financial First Aid Kit and a Personal Disaster Preparedness Guide.  These documents are available free:  and
