Recent Phishing Scam Involves CUs and NCUA7/12/2005
In recent months, members from various credit unions, including HEWFCU, have received emails reportedly from NCUA (National Credit Union Administration) requesting account information via a link supplied. Please do not respond to this email – it is a scam. Many of these emails have typos and grammar issues and contain very long URL links. Be cautious! Our security policy is clear – we will not request any account or social security information via an unsecured email or over the phone. It is also incorrect to assume that our governing body would request your personal account information via email. These thieves only want to steal your money. Please don’t allow this to happen to you. When in doubt, call the Credit Union to verify the legitimacy of a request for information. We will do everything we can to safeguard our members’ accounts and warn you of potential scams and frauds. See this month's NewsLine for additional scams and tricks to avoid.
